To celebrate the delivery of the renovations to the Arús Community sports complex, the Municipality of Juana Díaz held special sporting events, in collaboration with community leaders and the Monsanto Company, informed representatives of the municipal administration. On Saturday, August 18, starting at 9:00 a.m., both the Juana Díaz women’s all-star youth volleyball tournament and the men’s double-A youth baseball tournament were held as part of the “First Arús Sports Tournament”.
In addition to the sports events, there were other amenities for the enjoyment of the community, including an agricultural exhibition, by Monsanto employees, and a health fair, by MedCentro. Also present at the event was the Sor Isolina Ferré Centers’s Science Mobile, where children could learn about scientific concepts, such as sedimentation. Finally, there was music, sweets, snow cones, inflatables, and balloons for children, in addition to the presentation of Perlita The Clown.
“In the wake of hurricanes Irma and María, the Arús sports complex was battered. At Monsanto we made a commitment with the Municipality to recondition the area, so that the community could enjoy it again. During the past months, Monsanto employee volunteers worked on making improvements to the sports center. Among the improvements that were made were the painting of the stands, restrooms, dugouts, and cafeteria, in addition to the reconditioning of the entire baseball field. Today, we are very pleased to be able to deliver these improvements to the community, so they can return to host their activities again. Our commitment to the Municipality and neighboring communities is to support and help them improve their environment,” said Miguel Pereira, Monsanto community affairs manager in Puerto Rico.
