Myth: “Genetic manipulation can have uncontrollable consequences because the function of genomes are only partially understood”

Fact: The function of genomes and principles of inheritance actually have been understood since the mid-19th century. Since the discovery of DNA in the 1950s, the structure and function of genomes has been further studied and understood. Today we have a deep knowledge and understanding of genomes and how they control traits and characteristics in organisms.

We know that the language of genes is universal, and as such can be transferred between organisms from different species and function in a predictable manner. We know this practice to be safe and confirm safety through extensive studies that are carefully scrutinized by global regulators prior to the introduction of any new GM crop product.
